About the Retail Council’s Holiday Sales Watch

The Retail Council’s annual Holiday Sales Watch takes the real-time pulse of what’s happening in member stores between Black Friday and the week after Christmas. Using information collected from members, we issue periodic press releases to promote the retail industry in New York State. These releases prompt hundreds of phone calls to the Retail Council from print and broadcast media.

The Holiday Sales Watch just wouldn’t be possible without input from our members and we hope we can count on your support. We plan to survey members four times as part of the 2011 Holiday Sales Watch. The link to the first survey is here; the remaining three surveys will be conducted by telephone as follows:

  • Black Friday report. How were retail sales during the traditional start of holiday shopping season? (conducted Nov. 28-29).
  • Mid-season update. At the half-way point, how are members feeling about the success of the holiday season? (conducted week of Dec. 12).
  • Post-season wrap up. Did the season meet merchants’ expectations? (conducted Dec. 28-29). 

The information members provide the Retail Council staff during the Sales Watch is completely confidential. Your answers will be averaged into the rest of the responses we receive from others participating in the survey and you will not be individually identified.
